As the seasons change, we thank God for the many blessings He has brought to Dégagé Ministries throughout this year. With your help we hope to continue meeting the needs of our patrons through the winter and holiday season. The following are ways you can become involved:
Christmas in a Bag
Every Christmas Eve we have the opportunity to distribute "Christmas Bags" to our neighbors in Heartside. You can be a part of this event by filling a gift bag with special gifts for our patrons. Below is a list of ideas for items to include in the bags. We suggest that you choose several items from each of the categories:
Gift Items: handkerchiefs, cards and travel games, stamps, hand warmers, books, beauty products,$5 fast food restaurant gift certificates, $5 Meijer gift cards, pop, snack food, etc.
Clothing: hats, gloves, socks, under garments and t-shirts.
Personal Care Items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, disposable razors, combs, washcloths, chap-stick, nail clippers, small tissue packs, shampoo, body wash, and lotion.
A few reminders...
- Please do not place cold medicine, aspirin or mouthwash in the bags
- Food items and candy are acceptable but must be nonperishable and in enclosed packages
- For groups making large quantities try to make 70% for men, 20% for women and 10% for children. Please note the gender or age on the bag.
- Please have your gift bags delivered to Degage on or before December 16, 2011.
Blankets
Many of our neighborhood residents sleep on the streets or in homes with inadequate heating. At the end of every evening, we distribute blankets to those individuals sleeping outside, as well as to the women who sleep in our Drop-in Center. You may help us with this need by organizing a blanket drive in your church, school or organization. We appreciate new or slightly used blankets and sleeping bags.
Scarves, Hats & Gloves
Scarves, hats and gloves are a necessity for our neighborhood residents. Be a blessing to those we serve by gathering these items and dropping them off at Degage. It may be helpful to keep in mind that most of our patrons are men who prefer dark and neutral colors.
