Press Release: Staff Workers Honor the City’s Homeless

State Employees from the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans want to give back to the community! On Wednesday, September 23rd, a group of employees from the Home will be throwing a party for patrons of Dégagé Ministries. Dégagé Ministries offers support services to 400-500 individuals each day, the majority of whom suffer from homelessness.

Grills will be set-up outside of Dégagé’s building located at 144 S. Division Ave. Grand Rapids, MI 49503. The meal will begin at 11:45 am. Over 150 meals are expected to be served.

The group, ASCME State Workers United to Serve the Community, has also decided to collect different goods for Dégagé each month. On Wednesday they will bring hundreds of canned goods that they have collected over the last month. In future months, they will collect coats, hats, gloves, turkeys and Christmas care packages for the patrons at Dégagé Ministries.

Lavern Coats from ASCME said they choose Dégagé “because of the variety of services that the organization offers, especially meals and the women’s shelter.”
