Dégagé. (DEG-AH-JHAY) A French verb meaning to relax or be at ease.

Volunteer with patron

Since 1967, Dégagé Ministries has provided a safe, Christian alternative to the streets for those living in the Heartside neighborhood. Seven nights a week, all who come through our doors are treated with dignity and respect. Our low-cost meals allow us the avenue to sit down and get to know those among us who are often ignored and pushed aside. Our programs are designed to foster the kind of one-on-one relationships between staff, volunteers and neighbors that lead to emotional, spiritual and social support. The friendships that are formed make a lasting impact on staff, volunteers and neighbors alike. Our community is ethnically diverse, and individuals within our community have varied and often acute needs. Nearly 65% live at an income of $15,000 or less, and recent estimations suggest that over 50% of our population suffer some form of mental illness. Over 70% have disabilities of some kind.
